The ride will begin at St. Cloud City Hall (400 Second Street South) and will conclude at River’s Edge Park in Waite Park. A number of community leaders including Mayors Dave Kleis and Tim O’Driscoll have confirmed participation along with Stearns County Commissioner Mark Sakry. BLEND, the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota and the Trauma Outreach Program at St. Cloud Hospital are partnering in support of this community event to raise awareness of bicycle and pedestrian activities in Central Minnesota. We are also pleased to announce that Gold Cross Ambulance will be handing out Dairy Queen coupons to kids wearing helmets.
The Mayors’ Bike Ride kicks off Bike Walk Week which is June 5th – 11th. In addition, the Caramel Roll Bike Ride (Saturday, June 12th) caps off this week of activities!
HOP Fit Club Members if we had mandatory events to attend this would be one of them. Please show up to this ride if you can and wear your colors.

As most of you know Brandon Testa the owner of House of Pizza is the main race coordinator for the Apple Duathlon on Saturday, May 29th.
This year has been a lean year for the Apple on getting volunteers for race day. In the hopes of getting more help, we the race coordinators of the Apple are asking our members of the HOP-Fit club for help.
If your not racing and would like to help anyway possible, we’d love you to come and help out. We’re looking for people to help with corner marshals on the bike and run course, help in the start finish area and many more other duties.
Time required to be at the race start location (Sartell Middle School) is 6:30am all wrapping up around 1pm with a after race party at 2:00 PM – Volunteer Appreciation Party at Partners Pub in Sartell. Volunteers and family get FREE PIZZA and POP!
We’d love it if you could help or if you have a family member who’d like to help we’d appreciate it greatly.
If you’re interested in helping please e-mail Samantha, she’s in charge of our race day volenteers.
Here is her e-mail, BarnesS@centracare.com
Thank you hope to see you all out there racing or helping.

Complete Streets Bill: (H.F. 2801 and S.F. 2461)
Today, the conference committee version of the transportation policy omnibus bill (with Complete Streets in it) passed the Senate 58-3 and the House 109-25 and is headed to Governor Pawlenty’s desk. To pass this bill into law he has to take action by THIS FRIDAY! We are asking for your help by contacting the Governor to encourage him to sign this bill. Complete Streets means that our streets are planned to be safe and accessible for pedestrians, transit riders, bicyclists, and drivers: all users, regardless of age or ability. Throughout Minnesota we need to think about
moving PEOPLE not just automobiles.
To contact Governor Tim Pawlenty and Lt. Governor Carol Molnau, please phone, fax or e-mail.
Office of the Governor
Telephone: (651) 296-3391
Toll Free: (800) 657-3717

For something like 10 years now Charlie and Jeni Schad have opened their home up for the Apple Post Race party.
If there is one thing you should do to start the 2010 summer, it’s go to this Post Race party.
It’s not overly crazy and it’s not a wild drunken affair. It’s good times talking to people with similar interests from the Hop-Fit club and the St Cloud area Cycling/Tri/Running community.
It’s a great place to make friends and start matching faces with names. Charlie is always crazy good on the grill and there is always plenty of fun to be had.
I know my team-mate Jodi and I have been training extra hard just to get ready for the party.
Here is the breakdown and info.
Charlie and Jeni Schads house
507 Greenview Court, Sartell
We will provide a keg of beer and burgers and Brats.
If people wanna bring some fruit or salad type thing to share that would be great.
Kids and dogs are welcome.
Home # 656-5594
Cell # 250-9621
Come any time after 5pm
Hope to see you there

Gear Update
HOPFIT tech shirts are still available and you can pick up an extra at Fitzharris for only $11.
Can new members still get signed up? If you know of someone that may be interested in joining the club send them down to Fitzharris to get signed up. Club jerseys are no longer available for new members but $30 gets them a tech shirt and the club discount card.
Club dri-fit Nike hats – These are sweet looking hats, they come in black or white and if you ordered one you will be very happy. Swoosh and all. We will have these available for pick up when the jerseys arrive. If you can’t wait that long you can try and track me down to get you one – They are $12 each.
Jerseys?? Can you say volcanic ash? Is it still possible to use this as an excuse? Honestly, we are sorry to say they have taken a bit longer to arrive this year and we are doing everything possible to get them here asap. Watch the blog for any updates and estimated arrival time. We have been guaranteed before Apple but keep your fingers crossed.

With spring/summer time comes the occasional rain. And if you are as hard core as Charlie then you know that you won’t get fit sitting on the couch while it raining outside. So if you decide to go for a ride in the rain, but are worried about how you’ll dry your shoes in time for the next days ride, here is the simple yet effective trick to drying out your wet shoes.
First step, take shoes off your feet.
Remove foot bed/liners etc. You can usually dry liners in the clothes drier if their not specially made orthotics, if they are I’d place these by a warm air register.
Grab some old news paper (or if you read your news online) junk mail or old bills, just any type of paper that doesn’t have a coating on it. (I like to use old Velonews magazines if I’m short on the Sunday St Cloud Times)
Now stuff as much as that paper into each shoe and wait 4 to 6 hours.
After the allotted time, remove the now wet paper you’ll find your cycling or running or any other kind of shoe dry to the touch.
You are now ready to go meet Charlie for one of his double secret training rides and show him what you’ve got.
Cheers
Eric
